Oh no! Do you have PB's e-mail address or PV phone number? Since you're helping her out, she might know whom to call or what to do. PM or call me: 351 5395, if you think that contacting her is a good idea. (Didn't make it to Sunset Plan B tonight, awaiting a phone call.)

From the Wikipedia site (Thanks, Mark)
In the wild, the animals are only active from April to mid-November, spending about an hour per day above the ground.
A semi-arboreal species, it is found climbing deciduous trees in search of prey when encountered above ground.
Almost all documented bites (eight in the past 100 years) have resulted from prodding captive animals with a finger or bare foot.

All is well with perro and he is coming home tonight. He even received a bath and looks good. He was glad to see me, tail wagging and all.
A GREAT SHOUT OUT to all involved in the process of getting him to the vets office. You know who you are...THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Does this mean we have Gila Monsters in LM. Thought they were desert creatures?

I love a happy ending!

And a small cluster of "gringas to the rescue," near and far, are glad that we just happened to see Dean's first post simultaneously and formed an online/telephonic posse to send in the cavalry.

Thanks, Dean, for being so concerned about this pup. But wasn't the gila actually a big iguana? ;-)

That creature is actually a "Beaded LIzard". It's a relative of the famous "GIla monster" of the northern deserts, but not as poisonous and usually very afraid of others.
They have to actually chew on their prey (or dog) to get any the poison in. The saliva is what has enzymes that is dangerous They burrow into mud banks to lay their eggs.
Hope the pup is OK.

Paula and Gene, who live above Lupe and Sofia and who feed the dogs and the people and along with Stephanie really look after them well, have said that Palomo kills a lot of iguanas and everyone has tried to stop him but I guess this one got the best of him!!! Maybe he will be cured of his bad habit. I am glad he was ok, and that monster looks pretty fierce actually!! I did not know that info, thanks Julie and Rusty for that information.

Thanks Mark for the link. Sadly 2 years ago I came across one that had been killed with a huge rock on the road going up past our house.

Yikes, I wouldn't want to run into one of these while walking my dogs. I thought I'd dealt with everything by now: tarantulas, scorpions and boa constrictors. I hope these are slow moving!? Time to get a machete! Not that I would kill it, except if it attacked my dogs, it would be a different outcome!

Norma, if your dogs attacked the lizard , would you use the machete on the dogs? MMmmm?

I saw a guy in La Manzanilla who used a machete on his dog by slapping it against the dog. I was horrified! I would never use a machete on my dogs. I consider it cruelty. And the article says those beaded lizards are underground from Nov. till April which coincides with my sojurn. So I hopefully we will never meet. And they climb trees, so that would be a way out for them if we did cross paths. I think the reason I haven't seen them in 20 years is because they are endangered. Humans are the biggest predator not dogs. If I saw a human endangering the lizard, I wouldn't use the machete on them either. Only something that was attacking me or my lovely dogs.
