Hot enough for ya?

Hurricane Marie is just a memory of a few days of cooler weather and rain showers (not to mention big waves all along the Mexico and California coast.)

The heat has been coming back the last few days and yesterday set a record: 97.2°F / 36.2°C, breaking the previous record of 96.8°F / 36.0°C set back on July 9th. Combined with the matching afternoon humidity reading of 52%, the heat index hit 112°F / 45°C. That's hot enough for me!

I don't see any hint of tropical storm development for at least the next few days, so all we can hope for is the random thunderstorm cool-down...

I did get some rain this morning or last evening. Didn't we all?

That wasn't rain, it was humidity!

F ing humid yesterday, it certainly does not get like that very often, today
is much better.

If you start having problems with computers and similar things it is because
they have a limit on the humidity they can handle.

Usually the operating range for humidity tops out at 80% in the specs for computers. However, if you keep it running all the time you can go much higher. It is only when the airflow stops and the humidity builds up on the electronics that you have a problem. When you fire up your computer it will short out from the moisture buildup.

I have a computer outside on my covered back porch which is exposed to the elements all the time. After zapping two power supplies from the condensation on their capacitors I started leaving it on 24/7. It's been running for a couple years this way without a problem. I wouldn't recommend this setup with any expensive hardware, but if you don't care about the equipment it seems to work just fine. (Leave the monitor on too!)

Yeah, I noticed some water on the car this morning, but it wasn't enough to toggle my rain gauge (it takes at least 0.02" to register any rain.)

And that wee bit of rain sure didn't cool us down last night. Donna and I needed three fans to sleep. The low temperature this morning only got down to 83°F / 28.3°C, outside in the back yard. Inside the house it never got below about 86°F / 30°C.

This morning there have been some moderate blobs of rain showers popping up all along the western coast of Mexico. We can always hope one will hit us...

"Three fan night" as opposed to Three Dog Night

The Three Dog Night Story, 1964–1975 states that vocalist Danny Hutton's
then-girlfriend June Fairchild suggested the name after reading a magazine
article about indigenous Australians, in which it was explained that on cold
nights they would customarily sleep in a hole in the ground whilst embracing
a dingo, a native species of wild dog. On colder nights they would sleep with
two dogs and if the night were freezing, it was a "three dog night".

Boredom can also lead to things which hurt to watch

Sometimes I have a three-cat night...all as close to the fan as possible.

Cooling shower, more coming?

Yay, we got our wish yesterday around 4pm. 0.12" and a nice cool-down for the evening. A 2-fan night for us, but this morning the cool is wimping out some.

Today it looks like there is plenty of instability along our coastline again. In the last few hours some very heavy and widespread thunderstorm clusters formed near us and headed out to sea. It's hard to predict what's coming next.

Still no organized tropical storm development in the next few days.
