Morning Beach Report

Had a mellow swim this morning in front of Pedro's. As we all know, the beach has changed due to several days of high surf. Just a few yards offshore, there is a trench which prevents the waves from breaking until they hit the shore.

Timing is everything. Wait until the last wave of the set surges onto the beach, and just jump in and swim. After thirty yards or so, there is a sandbar if you need to stand and catch your breath.

Getting in is the hard part but, again, timing is everything. The steepness of the beach is creating a rather strong undertow. So, try to bodysurf a set of waves to get as close to the beach as possible, then stumble through the pebbles and have a seat at Pedro's, and congratulate yourself on a job well done.

Wow, when was the last time that the surf was potentially dangerous after a storm has long passed? We've never seen that in La Manzanilla.

Jon:

It's not the surf outside that is dangerous, but the shorebreak. As the big surf dug out the trench, the waves don't fully break until they hit the beach.

Children should not go out, or get close to the ocean these days.

Swimming with Mazinka

Had a good morning swim with Mazinka. The black buoy is gone but there is a white one to the south that you can use as a distance yardstick.

Mazinka kicked my ass on the way out...hate losing to girls.

You didn't lose to a girl. You lost to a woman. You should be accustomed to that by now!

I doubt that Mazinka was offended by my characterization of her as "a girl". If so, lo siento.
