bank withdrawls

Okay...well since Intercam has stopped taking and cashing checks, looks like I will be using a debit card to make withdraws from Banamex. My question....does the card need to have a chip or can it be used without one?
Anybody got the answer?

Mine do not have chips and I have not had a problem. I do have two cards on the same account, one with my name and the other with my friends name who also signs on the account. I have two because the credit union I use only allows 500 dollars a day to be removed from the account or about 6000 pesos and Banamex seems to have a 6000 pesos limit on ATM withdrawl per transaction.
When I need bigger amounts I pay my credit to wire the money to the Melaque Banamex and before I left the US I went to my credit union and signed a document authorizing transfer request over the phone when a password and other info is exchanged.
I know this is probably way to much info. Hope some of this helps.

Hi Steph, you're missing a beautiful rainy day.
If you're using a Banamex card for withdrawals, yes it does need to have a chip.

Just a little tip. If you go to your local (NOB) bank or credit union or call them, they can and will increase the amount you are permitted to withdraw with your bank card. They limit it so that you are protected from theft. Every year I get it hiked up before I leave for La Manzanilla, explaining the journey to the bank and the potential problems with getting cash. It's never been a problem.
