Slight solar eclipse this afternoon

If the clouds permit, you might be able to see a slight partial solar eclipse today starting around 6:00 La Manz time and lasting a few minutes. I think it will look like a broad but shallow bite taken out of the top edge of the sun. About 10% of the disk will be covered by the moon.

Also visible all day today and probably the next few days is a huge sunspot complex. Today it will be in the center of the sun's disk.

WARNING: make sure you and others do not look directly at the sun! Very dangerous to your eyes! Sunglasses don't cut it. And kids will want to see what everyone else is looking at and pointing at.

Here is an article with some more details, and suggestions for safe viewing: http://www.skyandtelescope.com/astronomy-news/observing-news/partial-solar-eclipse-october-23-2014-10062014/
