Legalization/Vehicle

Well, the process has taken longer than I wanted and what Onappafa had said it would take. But no real complaint if I get my plates.

My vehicle is supposedly legalized as of a couple of days ago. Now I am waiting for the Pedimento (document to prove legalization). When I get this document then I will first try getting plates in Cihuatlan as Onappafa says that vehicles older than 2004 do not have to go to Autlan for checking and anti-smog review. Ability to miss this step would be great.

If I can't get plates in Cihuatlan for whatever reason, then I go to La Huerta. If I wait until next Tuesday, Onappafa representative says he will be here to go with me to go through the process.

Persons here in La Manzanilla wanting to legalize their vehicles can meet with Onappafa's Lic. Aldo Gomez (no relative of mine) here on Tuesday. Time to be announced later.

You will need the vehicle owner's certificate, a picture of the vehicle (including a picture of the vin number on the windshield and on the door), your identification and a current electric bill (or something showing your residence address here). And of course copies of all this. Or you may just want information.

I'll keep you posted on my progress and meeting time for Tuesday. Cruz

PS: I have everything crossed that can be crossed on my body including the eyes.

Lic. Aldo Gomez will be here on Tuesday to answer questions and to be available for legalization of vehicles. Cruz

Greg did you legalize and amn car or buy a used mexican car?
I bought a mexican car and want to know the same info plus want to sell an amn plated truck through the onappafa's process if possible.

I went to do it 4 years or so ago but the gal at geigi's photo shop, who had taken my $1400p said the government at that time had changed the rules to include only vehicles exactly 10 years old and mine was too old but, alas, she would not give me a refund, so hoping to use my existing paid documents to qualify now!

Gregorio: Donīt know for sure but I think you can renew in Cihuatlan. I learned that I need to go to the County Seat (La Huerta) for my plates which I will do tomorrow.

David: If you are here in LM or vecinity, check with Onappafaīs, Lic. Gomez, tomorrow Tuesday at about 5:00 pm at the Delegacion office for information and perhaps help.

There are different ways of getting your vehicles fee for legalization. Try Google, or call 553-300-7500. They will give you the number of an Aduana Agent (from whichever Border Crossing you request). You can do this in English. Then call the Agent and request the fee for your vehicle and/or information. Or Google at caaarem.mx. Or Lic. Gomez can get this for you, but it would be good to have both fee amounts to see if there is any difference.

For whatever itīs worth, Cruz

Great info, Cruz, so thanks for taking the time. My main concern is whether or not the Gov. is going to allow foreign cars, such as those made in Japan, to be legalized.
If anyone has any info on this it would be much appreciated.

Hola Evelyn: The good news is the Onappafa is working on getting Japanese and other foreign vehicle legalized here in Mexico, supposedly for this November. Lic. Gomez will have information for you.

THE BAD NEWS: Lic. Gomez will not be here until tomorrow, Wednesday at the Delegacion Office at about 5:00 pm.

Normally changes like this happen a lot. But this time I'm the culprit because I forgot to keep my cell phone on me last night. So when Sr. Gomez called to confirm I didn't answer. Now I must wait for my plates and his meeting to have questions answered. So sorry for any inconvenience, Cruz

Thanks for the info again, Cruz. I guess I can always hope re: getting my Japanese car legalized.

I'll look into it as soon as I am there in late November.
