Anyone know if Azia Azul is still open this year or has opened up again... it's up in Emiliano Zapata and had some good reviews back in January here on the board. So, if anyone knows...

Thanks mucho, Alex. At least I know they do exist still. I found this posting. I'm sure I'll be able to find out whether their hours of operation have changed or not.

Thanks spark-meister...

Now does anyone happen to know where it's located in E. Zapata exactly? I heard it was across the street from a vivero (nursery) or that there's a vivero nearby, and that it's on north end of town, I think. Es la verdad?

Across from a motel that's next to the vivero and way, way up on the hill. Long driveway up to it

My recollection is that it's not a very long drive but IS a very steep drive. If I'm thinking of the right place, it's at the north end of town, across from the vivero, el restaurante La Loma, y un otro restaurante El Refujio (sp?). It's the one that's visible from the main road, on the right at one travels north, is that correct?

Jo Anna... You nailed it with that description! You've got a good memory. Even though I had already "looked" before, with your info, I "dropped in" with google maps street view and presto, there was the sign for it, just across the road from los restaurantes La Loma and El Refugio, just as described. I took a couple of screen snapshots for anyone going that way. Gracias for your help mis fellow gringos - see you at the A.A.

Thank you, Pablo, for the correct spelling: El Refugio. Coincidentally, that is where we took refuge a few years ago when it was expected that the tsunami that didn't happen was going to overwhelm Boca de Iguanas.

El Refugio is owned by the Sahagun family who owned the Riscal hotel/restaurant at Tenacatita until it was taken over by big, bad, Villalobos. Now it's one of the buildings where the cops live. A pity.

We love this restaurant. It used to be on the careterra but they moved it up to their home way up the hill. I think that it is actually called Asiazul. Thai husband and Mexican wife are the owners I believe.

Yes, Sr. Pace, you're right, sort of... the chef is actually Vietnamese, according to the posting from a couple of years ago (see the link on my 2nd post on Nov. 2 above). Great to know that you and others still love this restaurant. Thanks to all who've contributed to my edification on the subject. And to Dobie for info on El Refugio as well. Can't wait to get down to LM and go for a meal there.

I stand corrected. I remember now that he is Vietnamese.
