Does anyone have experience with a Garmin GPS with the Bicimapas map added. I have heard that it has improved greatly in the the last two years and I have a notion to buy one. If I could learn how good it was. I used GPS years ago but it wasn't really worth the effort then.
So, any experience with Bicimapas?

Lou!!!--From time to time, when my thoughts drift from work to the beach, I check this board, and wow, what a great surprise it was to see your name. It's been about 15 (?) years since I met you and 12 (?) since I last saw you, so it is wonderful to hear that you are still spending time around LaManz. Are you still driving that fine old pink truck? Are you staying in LaManz proper, or over at Bocas de Iguanas (did I remember that name right?) How's the fishing? I hope to visit LaManz again sometime soon while I'm still ambulatory (62 and healthy at this point). Sorry, I don't have any thoughts on GPSs, but I just had to take this opportunity to say HI and that I hope you are well.--Grant from Austin

First I went to Mexico Mike's site and read what he had to say. To paraphrase he says buy Garmin they are using Bicimapas and they are the best.
I also posted on Mexicoconnect travel forum where I got two great answers. One says " our two trips this year covered over 5000 miles and for the first time ever, I never had to pull out the Guia Roji Mexico map book for clarification" The other says Garmin routing is better than the Bicimapas is.
Then I telephoned to order my Atlas de las Carreteras de Mexico 2015 from www.mexicomaps.com and talked for an hour or more with a very knowledgeable sounding guy about GPS and Mexico maps. He was enthusiastic about bicimapas and about Garmin. Then I called Garmin support and had a long talk with them. Again the guy sounded knowledgeable. He confirmed the answers I got about the coverage and lots more about the difference in different Garmin models.
The long and short of the story is that if you have a Garmin but not Mexico coverage they sell a microSD chip which is basically the bicimapas for $50. However their GPS (at least for 2013 and 2014) that have the North America map including Canada, USA, and Mexico now have the bicimapas data included exactly the same as the microSD for Mexico. Topo not included.
Supposedly in addition to major highways you get all the little roads and small towns. All the gas stations, lots of restaurants, other types of stores. detailed maps of many many cities, improving on routing through one way streets.
I bought a Garmin nuvi 2699LMT-HD 6" Touchscreen GPS from Costco online. I can return it if I am not happy with it.
I am driving to La Manzanilla in early December. Feel free to email me after that with questions if you wish.

Thanks Lou. What the GPS often fails to warn you about is current construction.

Be aware that the coast road South of PV to Lamanz has many ongoing bridge re-builds and ongoing re-paving projects with poorly marked detours. Day light travel only. RV's may want to review their plans, some of the HOLES I pulled my box trailer thru last week would be impossible with any rain, even with 4x4.

Safe travels, Rojo
