I just heard that the police in Melaque are stopping people from going
on hwy 200 if their destination was north of km 32 (the bridge this side of
Emiliano Zapata) where this restaurant is

Yikes, my son is coming on the bus from PV tonight. No way to get ahold of him, so hopefully the Bus Station in PV will have the latest info.

My son is on the plane, so I can't get in touch with him. We weren't going to talk until he got to Melaque. I have great faith that they will get the bridge fixed or shuttle from one bus to another on the other side the way they did on the Cihuatlan bridge a few years back. Nothing I can do about it anyways as I am still in Canada. Part of the adventure.

I called the restaurant Azia Azul (315-108-0080) which is at km 39, they
said there was no access from La Manzanillaas the bridge is out South of them.

Does no one have information on why the bridge is out? Flood/construction?

I asked Primera Plus in Melaque and they said they will just go around via Villa. (Villa Purificacion)

Can you expand on that Sparks?

What are the directions to do that?

How long will it add to a trip to PV?

The busses are running as usual?

I don't get out much but .... the word is the road goes from Punta Perula to Villa Purificacion. More than that I don't know. It must be in decent shape if bus lines are using it. That new road may even show up on Google Maps?

It more than doubles the distance lost on highway 200

We have just arrived and are stranded in PV as Primera Plus is not going to Melaque because of the bridge being out. Please keep posting about any changes or alternatives. In the meantime, we'll check out the sunset.

Cheryl and Denise, you might run into my son, Cal, who is also trying to catch a bus to Melaque. He arrived on the WestJet flight at 3:15 and was trying to catch the 4 or 4:30 bus. Have you though about catching the bus to Guadalajara and from there to Melaque by way of Colima?

Hi Norma. that sounds like too much work. think we'll wait and see if the road dries up in a day or two. but you can tell Cal that we are at Hotel Cuatro Vientos in case he might want to share a cab.

We just got home after a 6 hour trip from PV>
We found our buddy Eloi and he brought us in his cab. We can by way of Villa and it took 6 hours. They were allowing the big trucks thru the wash out, but not cabs or buses.

akbarb obviously has the most up to date experience. From which I gather

1) "They were allowing the big trucks thru the wash out". i.e. there is
a way through. So perhaps the permission will be expanded to include busses
and or cabs shortly. I would bet that there are already some (other than
trucks) who are being allowed to pass. Late night may be an opportunity
(with a bribe).

2) 6 hours! A new record for travel time from PV to La Manz. Even beats the
5 hours one experiences when they accidentally get on the wrong bus (the slow
one) from PV. Been there done that.

3) Communication between those stranded in PV or South of PV is essential.
Group up and go for it via Taxi, and try to stay updated on changes.

Here is a photo of the bridge as posted by N2Futur on Tomzap. I hope they
don't mind my using it, I have no way to ask for permission nor link to
their post as that forum now requires you to sign in just to read it (strange policy IMO)
There are also videos around showing basically the same thing. I am curious
as to where the trucks are getting through e.g. leaving and rejoining the
highway, further up river? I would imagine they will have a temp crossing
in a couple of days, maybe less, and / or some will start a taxi / bus station
on each side and a way to get across.

I guess that's why, when I returned from Melaque yesterday morning, there were men on the highway asking where I was headed. They didn't have too much information other than "further up the road there is a problem" (at least that is what my minimal spanish got out of it).

This is also a good time to point out:

Call it a clan,
call it a network,
call it a tribe,
call it a family.
Whatever you call it,
who ever you are,
you need one.

Enjoy the day, people!

The answer to the mystery of how my son made it to Melaque so fast was that he caught a taxi from PV. Not sure of the route though.

Drove to PV Monday and back Tuesday. The bridge being out is a non issue. The bigger issues are all the potholes between Boca de Tomatlan and the new construction and the construction it's self. Maybe 40 or 50 miles of junk All in all not a bad drive.
