How is the US different than Canada in this situation?

I don't run across many (or any) articles which say how Canadian's feel about
this situation in Mexico. I would imagine it would be less than the reaction
from the US just due to the distance from the border. From what I have
seen in the past I would expect the Canadian press to at least use the story
to reinforce fear of Mexico. politics of fear.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on the hivemind of the readers)
there were no comments on the LA Times op ed. Here are a few from reddit

Daniel, if you are going to suggest that the Canadian press promotes a fear of a Mexico mentality, you might want to include in your long list of links, a Canadian story that does just that.

I note that, in this part of Mexico, there are more Canadians than Americans. Therefore I can only assume that either that the Canadian press does a dismal job in promoting fear of Mexico amongst us; or, Canadians don't read or watch the media; or, we don't believe what they say; or, we don't really think it is any of our business.

Mexicans will solve their own issues around this without angst from us foreigners. See you on the beach.

Ahh, citation needed, good call Larry. My statement will be difficult to back
up with just a link or two and even more difficult seeing as I don't do much
Canada news. I would say the citation would come mostly from statements of Canadian's
themselves during some events of the past e.g. when Robin Wood was killed and
other negative news. Here is one thread from this message board highlighting
one such thread and isolating a post by you which has been echoed by others
numerous times.

I am sure Mexican's will solve their own issues but I also think they would like
to know they have the support of others in that endevor. One way to sum up
what is happening is "Too much corruption, we want regular corruption".
The solidarity comes from others experiencing the same thing where they live.
Notice it is not "we want to elliminate corruption completely". To be really
honest with ourselves we are each corrupt, just not as much as "they".

Great references Daniel.

The title of the article was a bit of a red herring. It has nothing do with What country you're from. As the writer said, this is possibly the biggest trigger of mass protest in Mexico since the Revolution.

There were articles on this in both our Sunday Oregonian (Portland, Ore) and our local paper (coos Bay World) the last 2 days.
