We have a volunteer run anti-graffiti team in Ajijic. It depends on what the tag is made of--paint tags usually require painting over. Tags made with marking pens can usually be removed with alcohol and steel wool though there will be some paint damage.
What is most important is to get rid of it as quickly as possible so as to discourage further tagging.
