Stunning Art-Dance-Music Perfromance at Artis Gallery

A watershed moment was reached in La Manzanilla last night during the Modern Art event at Anaxasi's Artis Gallery. A mixed media dance performance that would have been the envy of any major city in the world, woke this little town up! Choreographed by Mayan Henze to wonderful music (would love to know the name), the piece began with a dancer dressed in white with white face paint, rolling on a rectangular white board. The board was scattered with numerous balls of what looked like baseball-wads of rolled-up newspaper. The balls burst under the dancer to reveal red and green paint, which coloured her white outfit and the board. The white floor board was then picked up by two helpers and hung on the wall, and the dancer continuned interacting with the painting by rolling over it with a blue soccer ball between her body and the wall. The dancer's movements were beautiful and understated, and the end result was that she almost completely merged with the painting she was creating. Kudos to Mayan, Anaxasi, and all who made this amazing performance happen in our small corner of the world! I took some photos, but could only capture a little of the feeling.
