Humans of La Manzanilla - Basureros

The men who collect our garbage - Los Basureros - in La Manzanilla were all born here, and have lived here their whole lives.

They get paid by the Ayuntamiento de La Huerta, but the pay is quite low. They really appreciate any típs people can give to help make ends meet.

On the left side is Cesar, el jefe, who will be 58 years old this coming February, and has been running the truck for 11 years now. He has two adult children, and one of his grandchildren is in Debbie's cooking class. Cesar is quick with a smile and very friendly.

Next to Cesar are Octavio (23) and Vidal (56), with Miguel Angel sitting up on the cab of the truck.

Gracias, Mr. D. Yet another of your great photos of some "friendly natives". Mas, por favor! Now if I can just remember all the new names that you've given us over the past few months...

De nada, señor!

I originally thought that naming all the posts "Humans of La Manzanilla" would make them all come up when you do a Message Board archive search.

However, it seems the only way to get any results is to make sure you put double quotations marks on both ends of the phrase in the search box, and even then, only a few of the postings are retrieved. Is it possible that the archive search ignores the Subject Line of the postings?

A regular Google search only returns the most current posting. Perhaps there is another way to tag these posts to make them more easily searchable?

p.s. The code number i had to enter to post this message was 9669699 - I wonder if it's a sign? Kind of like winning the lottery to get a number like that...

Hi David,

Short answer, Google search is better than Boardhost. Put this
into the Google search box site:http://members5.boardhost.com Humans
and you should get the results you are looking for.

Long answer

There are two search boxes on the message board. The one on the left is
a Boardhost search of the last 5,000 messages. The search box which is top
center is a Google search of the archives which has about 60,000 messages.
Approximately every 10 months I save a copy of the message board and put it
into the archives, the most recent is 14-03-17 to 14-11-25 it takes Google a bit to index
all of the messages and I just added that archive about a week or so ago.
At the top of the archives page are some collections of messages from
certain topics. I recently added Rodeo / Gringo day and will be happy to make a
page for Humans of La Manzanilla when I get the time to collect all of the links,
or when someone sends them to me or post them.

Thank you for all of your wonderful contributions to the message board!

Yes, that will work, it doesn't have to be fancy.

You will probably hit some dead link using the Google method I suggested,
those are message that have gone off the board and are now in the archives
(which will show up in an archive search). Let me know if you need help.

Yeah, Daniel, you're right, putting Humans into the Boardhost box seems to pull up all the postings by Mr. D., at least as far as I know. So no problema finding all the links. Looks like you started this series back on November 20, David. Es la verdad? Really glad this whole search thing came up, as I had missed your posting of Don Fidel. Amazing photos of him and another great local story to know...

David is right. We should all tip the garbage guys. We give a propina of 200 pesos a month, and it seems well received. Los Basureros come several times a week, much better service than in California.
