advice re Macbook? and ipad chord

My Macbook crashed shortly after arriving in Mexico this year, and I would love some adbvice! . Is it possible to remove the hard drive and take it home to retrieve my work later, rather than carry around the whole 'dead' MAcbook?
Also, the chord on my ipad has frayed and just stopped working, so I am looking to borrow or buy a chord. (The plug itself is fine). Is there anywhere in the area to buy an ipad chord?

Yes, it is definitely possible to take the hard drive out of your macbook....

My Macbook does not allow me to remove the hard drive. But, I have an iPad and if you want to borrow my iPad cord for a day, you're welcome.
