Hey Jo Anna. Mealybugs are insects in the family Pseudococcidae (unarmored scale insects). Most are quite small (as new nymphs, a lot probably are the size of a pencil dot), but because they like to hang out in gangs, they're usually quite visible. Huge pests of greenhouses and fruit trees especially and yes, hard to control. FYI, another armoured version, the lac scale is the original source of shellac. Jeez, murder is a pretty strong word for pest control, eh?!
