Back washed the pumps, changed the floats, ran both pumps at once, taken the air out of the lines and we still can’t make the out-flow faster than the in-flow.
Sewer was running well until we got 2 calls in November from the Federal Hwy 200 Bridge Builders. They had accidently broken the sewer line on 2 separate days. The sewer pipe was quickly repaired and the sewer flowed on. We didn’t put 2 & 2 together until now, because it took awhile to appear.
How was the hurried repair done? Was the repair done according to code? Did the repairs impinge the flow in any way? Did the heavy equipment and later detour, running over the 4” plastic sewer pipe flatten or interrupt the flow in any way?
When the out-flow pushing about 2 kilometers out to Los Ingenos and 25 meters up to the treatment plant is less than the in-flow, especially 3 times a day, the sewer backs up into the street at the crocodile walk. We can either let it flow on the street until the level goes down or into the lagoon. What would be your choice?
WHAT I HAVE DONE: Arranged a meeting for next Wednesday, to resolve this problem, of the director of sewers in LaHuerta and his electrician, the new Ejido President and other members of the Ejido, the Delegado and other interested solution seekers. I will need to keep reminding them.
WHAT YOU CAN DO? 1) Bring your complaint about the smell to the Delgado. That’s his job. You could say: “It is not healthy to be smelling the sewer water and It is URGENT that it be fixed” “No es saludable estar oliendo el agua de la drenage y es URGENTE que se arregle ". You can copy this in spanish and hand it to the delegado secretary! Say it in your own words, just say it! (It is very important to say URGENT!!! Or the govt may not not take us seriously. The president made me come back to make another petition telling him it was urgent 2 ½ yrs ago.
2) In your neighborhood, make up a petition and take it around to all your neighbors. “It is not healthy to be smelling the sewer water and It is URGENT that it be fixed” “No es saludable estar oliendo el agua de la drenage y es URGENTE que se arregle " Bring it to eco tours (Tierre Alegre) office by Tuesday aft. I will have copies made to present to the govt officials when they come on Wednesday. Petitions WORK! It is one thing we have in our power to do! The govt really took notice of our petitions 2 ½ years ago when we started this campaign. The PETITIONS started the action!
Thank you Mary Jo for confirming "the rumor" that the exit pipe was damaged in the bridge construction. It is a huge problem and people will be getting sick or not wanting to come here if this is not fixed very very soon. It is already almost unbearable to go past the crocodiles due to the horrible odor that is coming from the lagoon. I hope everyone will rally for this because this affects EVERYONE. Without many people asking for repairs it may not even get done and that would be a tragedy for this town.
As an aside...please everyone if you have not paid your water bill go and pay it as soon as possible and also remember to pay your yearly contributions to the Ejido as well.
I would be happy to help with getting signatures on a petition if someone with a printer can use Mary Joe’s script and drop them off at a central location. I’m sure there are others who could help out too
This is of great concern to me and I'm sure to everyone else. By coincidence I was recently visiting friends who manager the Caiman hotel. It's a really nice popular hotel in town but unfortunately the smell of the sewage is very strong there. Also the other day I was at the gym nearby to the hotel and a Mexican worker made the comment that the Americans told the Mexican government about the sewage problem but they didn't want to do anything about it. He said only the Americans care about fixing it. His words not mine. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
