Solving a Water Crisis
Posted by Larry F. on February 25, 2018, 8:43 pm
I am going to start a new thread on this. The intent is to keep focussed on what needs to be done to work towards a solution. I am hopeful that we can avoid blame and not split into camps of "us versus them". Can we stop with the attitude that "they can can't fix the sewer so why think they can fix the water shortage"? It can and will be fixed. Can we leave the locals out of this? It is none of our business whether or not the locals pay. Can we not divide into camps and finger pointing. The "Villa" owners, the pool and garden owners, they did not create the problem. Morgan's current rate structure accounts for users who consume more. It is not "flatlanders" versus the "mountain people". We are a community here. Lack of money is the immediate problem. It is a problem because only 40% of users pay up. Why don't they pay? Who knows. But I am sure the hell going to talk to everyone I can. Ask people you know. Did you pay? If not, why not? Educate people. A lot of people don't read this board and don't even know there is a problem. If we can get the payment rate from 40% to, say, 60%, Morgan can buy a pump and drill the well deeper.

Larry Bravo. We get a lot of benefit for very little in the way of infrastructure cost. Can we have a separate bank account set up at the Caja for potable water -- as there is for the sewer? Jim T | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

Larry Bravo. We get a lot of benefit for very little in the way of infrastructure cost. I would like to contribute more than the embarrassingly low annual water fee that I am charged. Our casa is managed by a local PM company. Generally, we review the quarterly statements annually to ensure there are adequate funds in the account, bills have been paid, etc. Without checking, I could not even say how many billings for water there are or when they occur on an annual basis. I doubt that my lack of "due diligence" is atypical -- but, La Manz is important enough to me and our extended family that I would like to rectify this. Can someone start by detailing the "paper flow" i.e. the dates (annually), how and where the invoices are generated, "delivered" and where payment is to be made. Thanks Jim T | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

Let's face it. This is mexico. No civic responsibilities Morgan does not have the authority to dig up the street, and shut water off. And I do not think he wants to create that many enemies.Shaming mexican people does not work.Dangerous consequences. And may be, us (from the north ,with civic duty) we pay our bills and make donations, to cover some maintenance costs (CFE ,pump). I am just a renter here but l will make a donation today. For my own info? Do people receive water bills? How are they delivered? how much per year? My 2 pesos. | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

Perhaps those 2 who have 4 apartments with numerous toilets, dishwasher and a washing machine and extensive gardens, could pay 4 times as much as the simple folks without those amenities. A voluntary survey of who uses the most water is an idea. I will volunteer. | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

Sent that off too soon. I am here till the third week and April and would volunteer to be part of a door to door committee butthere would need to be permanent residents to head it up! | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

Every year my water bill goes up and so far it is 2000 pesos per YEAR. It is nothing compared to the rates up in AZ. Used to pay about 2000 $ US per year. Just pay your bill, but if you do not receive water that is another matter entirely. | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

I submit that the water "crisis" really is more of a gringo/visitor problem than it is a Mexican problem. The system is overtaxed during gringo season, when we are all here using a little or a lot of water. In this very real sense, the visitors created the problem.

I appreciate Larry's comments. I would like to remind us allthat this "issue" is global as well. In some Australian cities, people are fined for washing their cars, unless they have their own well. There are things we can individually do , which I'm sure you know. Let me remind you: Don't run the water while brushing teeth or shaving. In the shower, wet down, turn off the flow, soap up, then rinse. Those without dishwashers can put a basin in the sink and then dump the grey water back out on the ground. I'm from B.C. and we use more water per capita than anyone else in North America! Just sayin'. PS: Also not naive ..I know this won't fix the immediate issue. | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

Aaargh. I need to correct myself: The PROBLEM is everyone's problem. The CAUSE of the problem is is rooted in the visitors use in the season.

It is a dry season problem, there are also crops being watered from the same pump that don't need water during the rainy season. | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

Is there a way to send money from afar? As a frequent visitor, not home owner. Thanks for working on this all who are! | ------------------------Re: Solving a Water Crisis

If the Ejido is going to be collecting $ for water in the future, computerizing the names etc. would make it easier to pay. It usually takes much time for Morgan or his wife to go through the book to find my name. | ------------------------
