Another alternative is to go to Guadalajara, then get on the autopista to Mexico City. It is great fun to go to the hot springs at Los Azufres (think that is how it is spelled) and then drop down (about another hour) to where the butterflies are. The butterflies are actually several hours (3 or 4) to the west of Patzcuaro even though there are a ton of taxis with the Monarch markings in Patzcuaro and environs. Another fun thing we found was a new magic city where they blow glass (primarily Christmas tree ornaments) that is directly north of where you exit for the monarchs off the autopista. I can't remember the name, but it looks like a minature Guanajato and is fun too. You can call me at 355-7546 or at Helga's at 351-5912 if you are interested in more detail and I can look names up for you when I am at home. |
