One of the most dramatic thunderstorms I've ever seen just blew past, leaving .82 in. of rain and a lot of nervous cats and dogs. It cooled things off nicely - at 3 PM it's a cool 82F with 74% humidity (it is a little sticky). One of La Manzanilla's newest homes lost it's third floor palapa at the height of the storm, probably due to a lightning strike, but the Bomberos (who ARE those guys and where do they come from???) managed to keep it from spreading to the main floor below. Very sad to watch but it could have been much worse. The amount of lightning that hit right in the middle of town was amazing and frightening. Don't think we'll have more today but who knows - tis the season. We had two hours without electricity but everything's back on and all is peaceful again here in the jungle. |
