Bookstore update

We know the season is winding down when Josie says "I only have two more Sundays and then I'm heading North". Seems like this year just flew by...but alas, it was a great one. It was the bookstore's fifth season, and so far our best. Not only were we blessed with fine volunteers, we received the best donations in reading as well. Our many thanks to all who stopped in with donated books and to those who came by and snatched them up. To those of you packing up, we would be pleased to have more books. It is a long rainy season ahead and we will be open throughout but on a limited basis.

Our projects this year took a bit of a turn. We seem to be growing in a new direction and it looks so promising. Our scholarship to high school for Ednally is working out great. She came out in grades with a 9.7 of a possible 10. With all the donations this year, we will be able to sponser her for another year and start a new student as well.

We were also able to lend money to three local girls who are now in beauty school. They came up with a way to pay the bookstore back that is working out nicely. So a good trade for all.

The art school project is coming along. Thanks to the generosity of the ArtWalk folks of 250 pesos...we are reaching our goal of 3,000 pesos towards buying supplies for Abel's art school. He will start out teaching kids some techniques that we in turn will sell, making money for the kids and paying back the loan.

During the rainy season we hope to start a sewing project for embroidered aprons to sell for Toros. And the list grows on.

So that's what we are doing. Hope this summer is good for you all and that you have safe travels. Again, thanks for all your support and if you have books to drop by...many thanks.
