Hurricane Kenna made a fairly sharp right turn in 2002....

There is a lot of information on it, starting from this page
"Hurricane Season Tropical Cyclone Reports"

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pastall.shtml#advisories

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/2002kenna.shtml

The easiest to see how they forcasted it is in the loop of graphics.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2002/KENNA_graphics.html

If you stop the loop and go one graphic at a time you can see that initially
they did not know it was going to turn, then adjusted the track as it went.
Not much notice for the coast.....meaning, they can be taken by surprise,
even with the technology of 2002.
