You can overnight in ZACATECAS which is about 8 hours drive from Brownsville, recommend Hotel Don Miguel (+/- 90USD) http://donmiguel.com.mx/hdm/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=76&Ite
There is a place: CONCEPCIÓN DEL ORO, half journey way, the hotel LAS FLORES is on main road I haven´t stayed there, PLEASE DON´T DRIVE BETWEEN SALTILLO-ZACATECAS at night time. This road is under widening construction
