Actually I think it is the mangrove which is gone. From what I know the hotel is part of a family property which goes all the way to and includes the trailer park. About 6 years ago one member of the family sold the hotel part without the permission of the rest of the family's approval. The family stopped the sale in the courts but not before a bulldozer had been brought in and scraped the land in front of the hotel bare. It is illegal to cut mangrove and finally someone made them stop (a clear line in the mangrove which is North of the hotel). Next someone put up a chain link fence all the way around the property and stationed a guard on duty 24 hours a day. It only took 2 years for the fence in front to be lying flat on the ground from salt air corrosion. From what I know now (not much) Roberto Hernandez (Tamarindo) owns the property. |
