Well stated Julie, At least this time it was not done on purpose http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/oil-company-accused-of-dumping-waste-in-amazon-447352.html like in the Amazon. That situation calls for death penalty verdicts. "Shame on them". Unfortunately the way corporations are set up there is no "one" to blame and they have no shame, with the exception of when they don't meet profit expectations. For the most part they are heartless. Check the documentary The Corporation also Wikipedia. Unfortunately the producers come on at the end of each of the parts asking for donations, it it bothersome, just skip to the next video. Or download the whole documentary from here A really encouraging part of the video is Ray Anderson - Interface Carpets Do you realize that the fines for the Exxon Valdez spill from years ago have gone from billions to 500 million and still has not been paid? Wikipedia The revolving door connection between Corporations and government are now so close as to be indistinguishable. As if the corporations did not already have enough power recently Congress ruled that corporations are people and can contribute to political campaigns. See Corporations Are NOT People! I found the reddit discussion on this interesting. The nature of corporations and lobbying / bribes are most of the reason that regulations were so lax on the Deep water Horizon and why the Exxon Valdez fine has never been paid....just for starters. It would seem that more regulations would be the first thing on the list to do. It's not. The first thing on the list is to keep the Internet what it is today. Corporations have spent billions acquiring news papers, and radio / TV broadcast stations so as to control the flow of information. The Internet is screwing up their plans and they are busy chiseling away at it bit by bit. Weather it has to do with stopping Wikileaks, child porn, or controlling bandwidth, Net Neutrality, copyright, piracy or whatever, control of any kind should be repealed. It is true the Internet has both good and bad, but by far it is good. This time lets just let the people sort it out, not regulate it. The world is changing very, very quickly. Grab on and stay informed. Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone. If your time to you Is worth savin' Then you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin'. Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no tellin' who That it's namin'. For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin'. Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There's a battle outside ragin'. It'll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls For the times they are a-changin'. Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don't criticize What you can't understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is Rapidly agin'. Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin'. The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is Rapidly fadin'. And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin'. Bob Dylan - Times They Are A Changing |
