Thanks!

The issues with trash cans on the beach would be 1) the ongoing effort to empty them (who pays for and handles it), and 2) placing them so that are not in the tidal zone, which tends to be higher in the summer months. And, there would more waste to remove than there is litter, because those cans would attract a lot of garbage that many people now take to the dumpster and cans near the beach.

Also, there is the matter of the relative return for the effort. Most beach littering occurs in front of the village, because that is where most Mexican day tourists congregate. My guess is that 99% of the Mexican day tourists congregate there. It takes a lot of effort to haul stuff beyond town, unless you have a beach vehicle (and most do not). Some litter that originates in front of the village ends up on the beach north of town because it is washed out with the tide and brought back in. Some ends up in the ocean. I believe it best to attempt to keep it out of the bay in the first place.

During Christmas, Easter, and school vacation, a considerable number of Mexican tourists use the campgrounds between LM and Boca. So more litter originates north of town during those times. However, the campgrounds have garbage cans, and more garbage ends up in them than is littered. During those times, I think the greater benefit would be gained from persuading the municipality of La Huerta to install temporary portable potties along the road parallel to the beach, to reduce the fecal matter that ends up there now. It is a heck of a lot easier to remove litter than poop. Personally, I won't touch poop of any kind . . . canine or human. I leave that where it lays.
