Trash talk - plastic bags

Luli, who runs the veggie store in La Manzanilla, told me that local stores will not be allowed to use plastic bags, as of Dec 1. They may use paper bags. I had read that Guadalahara was moving toward this, but I reckon it must be a state-wide thing.

Of course, far better is for people to bring their own bags!! Waste reduction is the highest waste management priority, because it yields the highest environmental benefits. However, it really requires individuals to assume more responsibility for the wastes that they generate.

Speaking of which, one of my most prized possessions here is a hard plastic egg tote. I bought it years ago, I believe in a store that sold camping gear. It wasn't as handy in the U.S., because most eggs are sold in prepackaged cartons. I love that egg cartons aren't omnipresent in Mexico. It enables a waste reduction practitioner to eliminate a lot of waste, by bringing their own bag or other toter.
