I think what is happening is that Villalobos is just a figure head who is
apparently pushing a project that the gov thinks will bring more money into Mexico
via tourism.

It makes sense on the level of tourism = money = better for Mexico.

It makes less sense when you consider the loss of freedom for the people of Mexico
(use of Federal Zone).

It makes less sense when you consider the damage done by confiscating,
by force, properties which were titled and held via fideicomiso. Bad for
Mexico, really bad over all.

I makes less sense when you consider that most of the existing projects of
similar nature (i.e. golf course, fancy, geared toward the rich) are not doing so
great occupancy wise.

It reminds me of when my girlfriend and I went to the island of Crete. We saw
mile after mile of places duplicating what worked next door i.e. catering to the
Spring break / rich crowd. We were looking for a natural setting and had to drive
hours to find it.

I think Villalobos would have been smarter to use the existing, real Mexico setting
that existed, built a luxury hotel on the open ocean side, and catered to persons
who wanted a luxury vacation with real Mexico experience a short walk away.

The people of Mexico have a lot to offer, They are rich in personality, warm, full
of life...on and on. This is not something you can duplicate artificially, it is
either happening or not. Why not cater to the new generation of vacationers who don't
want to play golf, or hang around with just the same old rich crowd. People who
are looking for a real experience...keyword real.
