As a resident of El Rebalsito I can assure you that we're not just sitting back doing nothing. CFE told people that they had come taken all their meters down and that they were in a room in Cihuatlan. When one of the women went to check it out, she was taken into the room and after searching through the meters piled on the floor, she was given one and told, "This is yours." The number didn't match what was on her last electric bill. She showed him that the numbers didn't match, but he kept insisting that was hers. None of the desalojados are paying their bills, since August 6, when they went to Cihuatlan to explain the situation. No one knows if their stealing the power or if not, who's paying for it.

Vehicles like Coca Cola and Bimbo enter with no problem. Police vehicles (most of them black that say State Police) come and go all day. Often the police come into town just to intimidate people. The other night they were at the local cenaduria and parked in the middle of the street, blocking traffic. Someone coming down the street leaned on their horn long enough that finally the police truck was moved. They all had their guns and when one went inside to pay he had his weapon raised.

Someone asked the police at the gate to see an official paper, when they were told the beach was now private property. The policeman pointed his gun and said "this is all we need."

We're in constant contact with the committee of federal diputados that are working on this issue, and have spoken to them regarding blocking the road, landing by sea, walking in from Blue Bay, etc. They have asked us to please wait while all legal avenues are pursued. They're afraid of violence on the part of the police. We really want to avoid any more violence, after what happened on the night the desalojo when the police came into town shooting with rubber bullets, throwing out bags of tear gas, hauling people off to jail for no reason (including minors) and terrorizing everyone.

It's a very difficult situation.
