Twenty diputados, media (reporters and TV) came to El Rebalsito today
to accompany the people to peacefully walk down the road and go to the
beach. They asked for women to go first, men last, children to stay at
Chito's Restaurant (next to the Pescaderia) - where we all met. The
police at the gate, wearing State Police T-shirts said it was a
private beach and wouldn't let us in. The diputado Salvador Caro who
was walking with the women in front, said the road was a state road at
it was the constitutional right of all Mexicans to use the road and to
go to the federal zone of the beach. The police continued to say no -
the head guy wouldn't even tell his name to the diputado - finally he
said his name was Pancho, which got a good laugh out of everyone.

Then the police said 20 people could go in, and when they came out 20
more could go. No one liked that idea. The men (who were supposed to
stay in back) made their way to the front.

The diuptado then backed his truck up to the gate, tied a rope onto it
and with the clutch smoking, pulled down the gate. Then all hell broke
loose. The police started throwing pepper spray - the poor reporter
from TV Azteca (who interviewed me the last time the diputados came to
town) had a face totally dripping with orange liquid. Several people
were temporarily blinded including several of the diputados. The guys
from town started tearing down the gates on the sides of the road -
some got hit with police clubs. Twenty mostly women, accompanied by a
diputado did enter - inlcuding Lola, Lilia (both heaving sprayed),
Mari (Paraiso), Chely, Chayo, Julia and more. I was trying to take
pictures and got part of my arm sprayed - 6 hours later it's still
burning, I can't imagine how the ones who got sprayed in the face are
feeling.

Then the police said they got an order to shoot if anyone came near,
so we all retreated. An ambulance was called to treat the people who
had been hit or sprayed. We went back to Chito's where we had spent
the morning preparing food, setting up tables and chairs, music, etc.,
thinking we would have a party celebrating the opening of the beach.

I asked a couple of the diputados if they were surprised at what
happened and they said they were more than surprised. They were
shocked. Of course we had been hoping for a peaceful entry, but the
diputados said that what happened was a good thing (even though they
were hurting too) because it gave them more reason to go after the
governor.

The diputado David Hernandez (the one I have been corresponding with)
brought 100 despensas - paid for out of his own pocket - 5 kilos each.
They loaded them into my truck since they knew I was the one who had
given out the last despensas (that you all generously paid for). Had I
known I would have pumped up my tires more!

I'm too tired to post the photos now - if the internet here was faster
it wouldn't be a problem, but it takes so long to upload them. The
reporters are already at work - you can read their reports here:

That's it for now, dobie
