I've been told by a NOAA scientist/yacht racing friend that the oceans (tides) behave like water on a flat plate. When the plate is rocked the difference is much greater at the edges than in the middle, with the center of the plate being those bodies of water near the equator. That's all that my simple mind can remember. |
