I'm pretty sure you can't pick up US Dish service here since they changed satellites last year (maybe if you used a huge antenna?) DirecTV I don't know.

Our neighbors have VeTV (the budget service offered by Sky.) That's the baby blue dishes you see all over town now. They have just a few movies and TV shows in English w/Spanish subtitles, but not much. I'd say it's 5% English programming.

I can recommend Dish Mexico:

which we got a couple months ago. Lots more English programming than VeTV (maybe 20% English, including all the movies on TNT and most of the US comedy and drama shows on WB (Warner) and Sony. Hit or miss on the other channels.

And Dish Mexico is even cheaper: 149 pesos/mo. for the Basic package. Good signal even in moderate rains. My only complaint is the lack of the national Mexican networks like Televisa and Galavision: no Mexican news or sports or telenovelas (if you care.) I think it's aimed at customers in the big cities who can get those national networks over the air. You can also have your Dish billing included in your TelMex bill if you want.

Others can tell you (or you can search the board) about the Canadian Shaw Direct service which comes in great down here. There are tricks to get your account started and billing going even if you don't live in Canada. It's all English and includes the US networks.

Good luck!
