A little off topic, and I don't know whether it's easier for you to actually go to Vancouver rather than Van. Isle, but flying direct from Comox to PV (I think once a week and, in the past, Saturdays) is possible during most of the winter. Saves an overnight in Vancouver. Carrier is Westjet.
If you have to stay overnight in PV, often cheaper south of the Rio Cuale, and you can catch the first class bus there as well.
