Hey Miguel, Patrick and anyone else whom has some concern about swimming in the Ocean while in LM, not to belittle Mazinka's use of intuition, but if it was me, I would also utilize a bit of intelligence, and common sense to access the situation. Although with that said, without getting a lab to test the quality of water in the Bay, I suppose it's difficult to determine exactly the chemical constitution of the Ocean water. Given the amount of rain that fell in such a short period of time, and knowing something about the sewage and water treatment systems in La Manzanilla, there was plenty of raw sewage which ended up in the Lagoon and or directly into the Ocean. I agree with Mazinka, use your intuition, but also some common sense. Most tourists that I've seen "swimming" in the Bay, do not really swim, it's more just up to the neck, sort of hanging out, socializing with their pod. If that is your idea of swimming, then I'm pretty sure you are OK, just shower after. If you do swim, I suggest using some quality goggles and ear plugs, as even when the Bay is supposedly clean, ear infections are common.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
