Well, sports fans, you can chalk up a new record wettest month since Deanna started her records in 2004: in October we had 16.64" (423mm) of rain. That was by far the rainiest October (#2 was 6.35" in 2009.) The 2nd wettest month is now July 2008 with 15.89".

Of course, Hurricane Jova was the reason for the new record: we got 12.56" (319mm) from Jova, mostly in a few hours early on the 11th. For comparison, a weather person in Barra recorded 11.5" from Jova, and another one in the Miramar neighborhood of Manzanillo recorded 4.9". I don't have any rain readings from points north of here.

Oct 11's 24-hr total was a little under 12", destroying the previous 1-day record of "only" 4.17" back on Sep 11.

But wait, that's not all! You also get this shiny new annual rainfall record (and the year's not even over with!) 2011 total rainfall to date is now 52.21" (1333mm). 2nd place is now 2010 with 41.83", followed closely by 2008 with 42.56". The average annual rain for 2004-2010 was 32.3", but 2011 will drag that average up to 34.82" (higher if we get any more rain.)

Except for a couple days around Jova, October was quite warm and humid. The highest temperature was 90.5F/32.5C on the 4th and 6th. The average high was 87.3F/30.7C. Combined with afternoon humidities in the 75-80% range, the heat index was uncomfortable all month. On the 6th it got up to 110F/43.3C.

Hopefully the weather will "break" soon and dry out. At least the nights have been getting more comfortable lately. Winter is just around the bend....
