Thanks, Dave. You're right about the rain lasting later this year. Every year from 2004-2010 had the "half-the-year's rainfall date" sometime in August, but this year it happened in mid-September. All because of the abnormal October rainfall.

Is El Tigre the wash that runs parallel to highway 200 and crosses under our entry road? Did anyone see how full that got? I know there was a lot of debris and signs that it overflowed the first time I drove out of town several days after Jova.

I don't think the "arroyo" that runs past Martin's got any higher than previous floods. To me it seemed similar to Lane in 2006, and I think it was better than Henriette in 2007, possibly because they keep the channel upstream scraped and cleared out better now. Even with several inches less rainfall than Jova, Henriette sent a lot of arroyo water out of its banks and down the streets on this side of town. 6-8" of this street flow got into our house (this was the trigger for us to raise our floors up 10" during our remodel, along with other protective improvements.) I heard this diversion into the streets was partly because of some big downed trees obstructing the arroyo's flow.

Escept for the extreme gullying out of Calle Perula Sur (up beyond the Galeria), I would say that the town had less flood damage and mud slides from Jova than from Lane or Henriette, even though Jova dumped 3" more than Lane, in a shorter period, and on top of ground that was at least as wet.

Why? I don't know, but I'm not complaining!
