HI Terry - just wanted to add that it is really important to protect your dog from heartworm. There is a lot of it around here (the vets told me) and it is spread by mosquitos, so check out starting him on that medication before you come as well.
I have tried all the tick medicines for my dogs and they still get ticks. The tiny guinas are so small you can hardly see them I HATE THOSE THINGS!!
Be prepared to check you dog every time you get home from a walk, between the toes, under the toes, in the ears, and everywhere else. You have to kill them when you get them off or else you will have zillions of ticks climbing the walls in your place.I use a sheet on each of the dogs beds and check them every morning, and wash them often. I have started to shave my dogs as well, even tho one is a short haired dog, just so I can find the little suckers more easily. Taking good care of our doggie friends here in Mexico is a time consuming job. but worth it when you see them having such fun on the beach!!
