Proteccion civil here in La Manzanilla now has refridgerator magnets with the local emergency number for sale for 20 pesos each. We've put the number for the EMT only on it as there is no way that the police can monitor a phone 24/7. One call to the number on the magnet will get you to Protecccion civil and they can radio the police. Both the police and the EMT people are on the same frequency, so assistance can be sent quickly, pretty much the way that 911 works up north. The ambulance still hasn't arrived but we're not giving up. El Presidente says that the people in La Huerta are waiting for a replacement vehicle and that as soon as that arrives, we'll get an ambulance. I don't know how much faith to put into that statement as we've been hearing it overand over with no results. Until we do get one we're still trying to provide emergency assistance to the community.
