The house I have rented for the past 10 years is one block from the Casino. Rodeo is not a joyful time for me. Instead, it is 3,4,or 5 days of blasting musical hell. Gringo friends who don't live near it say, "Oh, just enjoy the music and go dance." But I find I can't enjoy music that even though I wear earplugs blasts my body with a base note that comes up from my bed frame. Why does it have to be so loud?

I asked a Mexician neighbor why the music didn't bother him. He said it did and when it states he asked his wife if she wanted to dance since they can't sleep.

People are people and hear the same volume and can't sleep with loud music. The difference, I think, is the cultural conditioning not to complain. We gringos think we have the right not to be molested by other's music. I think the Maxicans just accept it as they accept dogs barking, having their loved ones killed on the highways by drunk driver, and smelling sewage on the street. It's just the way it is! (Also they have a lot fewer lawyers)

I spent one Easter in La Manzanilla, now I leave before Palm Sunday.
