We got a nice mellow thunderstorm around 5AM with some good steady rain for a while. 0.42" so far, and still sprinkling off and on. Nice to have the cooldown after the last few days of increasing heat (yesterday's 93.2F and 67% converts to a 111F heat index!) This rain apparently came from two blobs, one coming from inland down south then building up along the coast toward us, and the other one coming from directly inland of us. You can see the action on the GOES IR loop: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/epac/flash-avn.html We were in the gap between the two blobs, so it could have been noisier and wetter for us. Most of the action should be over for now. About the only cause I can see for these blobs is a low pressure trough running down the middle of central Mexico might have created a low pressure blob in combination with some Pacific moisture it ran into along the coast (??) I don't see any notable weather threat to the Lake Chapala area in the next few days. There's always the possibility of thunderstorms this time of year. Enjoy the coolness while it lasts! |
