Hi David, I have been catching rain as my only source of water from the metal roof of my little cabin up here on Denman Island since the spring time. Its really low tech, water runs from the gutters down to a pipe which goes to the cistern. I put mesh and a piece of silk over the water entrance of the cistern to catch any pollen or dirt. The water runs clean and clear from the hose at the bottom. Every time it rains I go up the ladder to see how much water I've collected, though I imagine the novelty will wear off at some point. The cistern itself is plastic and could use some protection from the sun (not that we've had much)to keep the water cool and free from bacteria. Working on that. I am madly happy with this sweet little off grid, low footprint system. Next up....solar panels!! |
