So as much as I try to avoid controversy, I have to chime in on this one. As I have so often read on this post, we like to refer to ourselves as "guests" of this country and this community and yet it sounds like we have taken on the role of "self appointed caretakers" of La Manzanilla. Because we would like "our" town to remain small, quaint, the way it was when we first discovered it, we seem to have decided that it is our right/responsibility to make sure that it stays just the way we want it, ie...run off or keep out "developers". When was the last time we asked our unemployed Mexican neighbors what they would think of more building in La Manzanilla? Personally I wish I had found LM many years ago as a lot of you have and I don't like to see it growing as I don't like to see my own community in the states growing, but... it is not my right or responsibility to drive away business that could provide jobs for the local people, especially if I am calling myself a "guest". Aren't we really just looking out for our own interests or do we arrogantly think we know what is best for the people of La Manzanilla?
