Jesse: Just before we had the meeting with El Presidente at the jardin last Dec. I had collected a total of 40,000 pesos for the purchase of an ambulance. I also had pledges for another 20,000. Then El Presidente told the townspeople that he would provide an ambulance for La Manzanilla within two weeks. Now we didn't need to keep collecting donations and the pledges were never collected. We have been told on at least 6 occasions that the ambulance was just a week or so away, that it was only a matter of paperwork, etc. I don't know what to expect from the new administration in La Huerta, hopefully they will honor their promises, but I,ve learned to not count on the promises of Mexican politicians any more than you can count on the promises of U.S. politicians. I'm up in the States right now looking into the possibility of acquiring a donation vehicle to take down to La Manz. There's still over 24,000 pesos in the ambulance account (some was used for truck repairs, oxygen, meds etc. as we thought that the ambulance was coming from La Huerta). For now, we are just trying to continue the emergency services, but without some funding it has become almost impossible. I don't want to deplete the Caja account any further than is necessary as we might have to go back to the original plan of buying a vehicle. Hopefully, I'll be able to work something out with a donated ambulance, I'll let you know how it goes.
I hope that this somewhat explains the situation.
I'll keep everyone updated.
