Hi, I just went through the whole process of legalizing a truck. I passed through in Nogales and had the same difficulties finding a broker until I did a search in spanish and found someone. At the border I had to wait about 3 hours which was not bad. Then here in Jalisco I had to do a smog test, go to the recaudadora in La Huerta and make a trip for a vehicle inspection in Autlan and then go back to the recaudadora. The ten yr rule no longer applies as my truck is a 1993. It is for sale if you are interested! I am going to post something with more details and a photo but in the meantime please feel free to contact me and I can let you know all about the truck and-or the legalization process. After the costs of legalizing a vehicle it ends up being about the same price to purchase a used vehicle in the states (for a cheaper initial up front cost) and legalize it as it would be to purchase a used vehicle here. The former may be slightly less but once you include the travel costs, the hassle, etc, I think it balances out. I think that the cars from up there tend to be in better condition, although I also believe that a lot of the used cars for sale here are imported from the North anyways. Please send me an email if you would like to chat further! |
