Ann, I think that you will be fined when you take the car back to the border. A worse case scenario is that you might get caught on the road down here with an expired permit (expired when your FM3 expired.

Another problem. If your FM3 is allowed to expire and you take out a Tourist Visa, you may then have to apply for an FM3 (Residente Temporal) from outside the country. Also, if this is important to you, you may also have to start the clock over again - i.e, that would then be your first Residente Temporal.

Sounds like trying to renew in Vancouver is your best bet.
