Easy do it yourself seed viability testing

Here is an easy way to test seeds for viability. 1. open the package 2. place a few seeds on a wet paper towel 3. keep the towel moist and in a sunny window for 3-5 days. Viable seeds will sprout. I'm not sure there is a need to test to all the seeds, over the past several years planting my plot I don't recall having an issue with too many seeds not sprouting. If it's a huge concern only plant the packages that are marked, "Packaged for 2012", not that this is a guarantee that the seeds will sprout but at least you know you are using the freshest seeds. |
