not sure how the tax structure works here but shouldn't property and perhaps tourists accommodation tax cover something as basic as a police force ? similar for the ambulance and medical service I would think? great to see so many caring people, fund raisers and collection cans about town but wouldn't a tax levy of some sort ( as well as a meal / bed tax) solve some of these problems and provide a more permanent solution with a steadier steam of funds? I know a lot of people hate the thought of tax but schools , health care and policing shouldn't have to depend on collection cans and fund raisers. They are too important...just a thought - no offence intended to anyone or the many who live here and know more than I on how things work down here...
