2012 was a strange year rain-wise. We had well over the average amount, but very little of it was directly caused by nearby tropical storms (1.66" from Bud in late May, 0.6" from Hector in August, 4.2" from Norman in late September.) Instead we got rains like the 12.2" over 7 days in mid-June and 12.6" over 3 days in mid-August, with no obvious storms in our vicinity. All I could dig up from my online weather sources was mumbo-jumbo like "local surface trough combining with upper-level difluence causing enhanced convective activity." Makes it harder to track and forecast! We set several new records for high temperatures, probably because of the new warmer location of the weather station (see footnote.) The humidity seemed higher in 2012 than ever before, but I haven't had a chance to analyze the historical data yet. I'll post an addendum when I do... Now for the numbers: Rainfall: Total for year: 45.18"/1148mm (old avg for 2004-2011: 34.77"/883mm, new avg for 2004-2012: 35.96"/913mm) Wettest day this year: 6.16"/156mm on 8/18 (possibly caused by remnants of Atlantic TS Helene, combined with surface trough) Wettest month this year: 15.68"/398mm in August (thanks to the 12.6"/320mm from Helene on 18th,19th,20th) Temperature: Highest: 98.0F/36.7C on Aug 9 Lowest: 61.2F/16.2C on Jan 9 Avg daily maximum for entire year: 85.7F/29.8C Avg daily minimum for entire year: 74.3F/23.5C Humidity: Highest: 89% on Jun 23 Lowest: 41% in early May Avg daily maximum for entire year: 83.2% (normally occurs in early morning) Avg daily minimum for entire year: 68.9% (normally occurs in mid-late afternoon) Heat index: (approximate) Highest: 122F/50.0C on Aug 9 Avg daily maximum: (under construction) Records (for 2004-2012): 3 honorable mentions: 2nd wettest year: 45.18"/1148mm. Could be a 2-4 degree F difference on calm hot days(??)) Now we'll se what 2013 has in store for us... |
