We got this call also, and it was very believable, mostly because we do have a nephew who could be reasonably expected to get into this same type of trouble, and show up unannounced in PV to come visit us.

Bottom line: ask tricky verification questions that would NOT be known from phone books or emails or Facebook from anyone pleading for help or money, however much you feel pressured by time deadlines or "police" coming on the line. Even if it sounds just like your nephew (or whoever). Also demand the time it takes to contact someone back in that relative's home country to see if he is really in Mexico right now.

PS, the TelMex phone book for the PV sector (which includes La Manz) lists our names, addresses and phone numbers. That's enough to get a good start by these scammers. I don't know if you can ask TelMex to be unlisted.
