Kayaking in the Lagoon in years past!

I use to kayak with the Caiman every winter from '86-'93 when I brought groups here for 7 day camping kayak trips. We had to hack through a section of the lagoon every winter to get to the back pool. Over 400 cormorants nests, lots of egrets, night heron, King Fishers, Grey and White heron, ibises, and boobies. It was fantastic back then. Not sure if the cormorants nest there anymore. Back then it was spectacular and we were the only ones that went back in the lagoon. Little fish would jump into our kayaks which was awesome. We camped on the beach and went into town infrequently for supplies. One day we would kayak to Tamarindo and beach for the day (just a ranch-no hotel or golf course.) Another day we paddled to Mahaguas and surf kayaked and watched a family of pigs paly on the beach. We also paddled all the way to Tamrindo and back ( was a long day-14 miles). Another day we would paddle up the Rio Veine River; what a nice treat to paddle and swim in fresh water. We even paddled out to the Church's (rocks at the mouth of the bay.) Ahhhhh the good ole days-one phone in town at the La Manzanilla Hotel and no homes on the beach north of town.
