Since now 11 years in Mexico I got sick only twice. It is good to desifect salad maybe. Dust etc wash it off with pure water.
Now back to the question of what happens with Mexican fruits etc exported to US, Canada or elsewhere. I have friends who export green, yellow etc peppers to US and they got certified by FDA in order to be able to export. They had to install among others a water purification system (R/O) or alternatively desinfection of the water through ozone. as well they need strict prcedures and in addition are subject to audits. means there is no need for desinfection of those Mexican products elsewhere.
Now two smaller warnings. be careful with fruits once the the first rain has started. Lots of local peaople suffer during these first days.
second, I recently read the report related to germs etc in sauces you get in Restaurants. This is really horrible and the better the Restaurant the worse the result.
Anyhow, be happy. I travelled through the world and live in many places and never cared, and nothing happend.
Enjoy
